“The Slavyanovskiy spring”

The main merit in the exploration of the Slavyanovka mineral waters spring belongs to the outstanding Russian scientist and hydrogeologist Nikolai Nikolaevich Slavyanov. For the first time N.N. Slavyanov came to the Caucasian Mineral Waters in 1907, where he carried out a topographic survey of the healing Tambukansky lake near Pyatigorsk.
N.N. Slavianov took the most active part in the work of the Russian Balneological Society, created in Pyatigorsk, and in February 1912 he was elected as an active member. Since that time, he has forever linked his life with the Caucasian Mineral Waters.

Exploring the geological features of Zheleznaya Mount in 1912, N.N. Slavyanov came to a conclusion about the need for deep drilling to bring hidden in its bowels of mineral water to the surface. Spring No. 4, which was mined by the French engineer-hydrogeologist Jules François, was chosen as a place for drilling. According to Slavyanov’s calculations depth of the new well was supposed to be 120 meters, which at that time was extremely risky from a technical point of view. And the first failures didn’t take long to wait, after which the Geological Committee forbade further well drilling. However, it didn’t stop the genuine enthusiast of his case. At his own risk, N.N. Slavyanov continued drilling operations. Having the work organized in three shifts for personal funds, in 1914 N.N. Slavyanov finished drilling a well, bringing to the surface a powerful source of hot mineral water with a temperature of +56 degrees Celsius and a daily flow rate of 500 thousand liters. In 1915, a new source of mineral water at the suggestion of N.N. Slavyanov, who explored it, was named "Chernyshevsky" - in honor of the deceased in 1914 the director of the Geological Committee, academician of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences Feodosiy Nikolayevich Chernyshov. And already by the season of 1917 a pump-room of a new source in the style of neoclassicism was opened according to the project of Pyatigorsk architect A.M. Model. The newspaper "Kavkazskiy krai" wrote in 1916: "By the new coming summer season, Zheleznovodsk will be enriched with two new pump rooms ... 5000 rubles are allocated for the arrangement of the pump-room No. 1 and 12,000 rubles for the pump-room of the" Chernyshevsky source ". In 1916, the well damming was made, after what its flow rate was reduced to 360 thousand liters and later established at a level of 250-280 thousand liters. In the process of damming N.N. Slavianov first used thick-walled cast-iron pipes on the thread, which were then used on many other mineral springs. In August 1918, the Zheleznovodsk Medical Society addressed the Geological Committee with the following letter: "In short, the geologist N.N. Slavianov researched all the water resources of our resort for the first time, new sources (drilling No. 16 with Vladimirsky) were created, exemplary new sources damming was created and old sources were put in order; for five years of work, N.N. Slavyanov made for our group more than for all the past centuries, and with the discovery of a new source (drilling No. 16) a new broad perspective for our resort development has been created. Recognizing the invaluable services rendered by the geologist N.N. Slavyanov to the resort, the Zheleznovodsk Medical Society in 1915 decided to call the source-drilling No. 16 Slavyanovskiy and select the geologist N.N. Slavyanov along with the geologist A. Gerasimov their honorary members". After that, at the end of the same 1918 the source of mineral water, which was opened by N.N. Slavyanov, received its present-day name - "Slavyanovsky." Nikolai Nikolaevich Slavyanov died on October 16, 1958, was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow. The monument on the grave of the outstanding Russian scientist N.N. Slavyanov is made in the form of a pavilion of the Slavyanovsky mineral spring, which was discovered by him.
